In 2005, Aaron dropped out of college and responded to Hurricane Katrina with the Red Cross. Later that year, he took his first job in construction as the least skilled worker at a day company in the Reno-Tahoe Area. In this podcast, Aaron shares about where he started to where he is today.
Aaron is the Founder and Executive Director of unCommon Construction - a New Orleans-based nonprofit that uses the build process to empower youth to lead the workforce after high school or college. Through unCommon Construction apprenticeship program, high school students apply to join a diverse team to earn hourly pay and school credit for building a house in a semester. With the revenue from each project, unCommon Construction matches apprentices' paychecks with an Equity Award Scholarship, which they can use for further education, industry certifications, or tools needed for a full time job.
